Picocyl Announces US Patent Covering Gas Canisters
Issuance of US Patent and Trademark Office has issued US Patent No. 10,610,351 Further Bolsters Picocyl’s Intellectual Patent Portfolio and Market Leadership
GOLDEN, CO – March 19, 2021 Picocyl LLC (Picocyl), a designer, developer and manufacturer of next-generation drug delivery solutions, today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued U.S. Patent No. 10,610,351: Gas Canisters and Methods for Making Them for the protection of Picocyl’s gas filled pico-cylinders. The patent covers the novel cap septum design and construction which enables low puncture forces together with high cylinder pressures, providing power densities significantly higher than those achieved through the use of either springs or batteries.
U.S. Patent No. 10,610,351, further solidifies Picocyl’s proprietary and innovative technologies, processes and facilities for the premier, high-quality, medical-grade, specialized pico-cylinders. The groundbreaking pico-cylinder is the only medically designed and manufactured pico-cylinder (and Pico-Pin) in the market and is driving strong revenue growth for the organization.
“This is a significant mile marker for Picocyl, and I am extremely proud of this achievement,” says Jack Auld, Chief Technical Officer at Picocyl. “When we began Picocyl, our goal was to deliver the smallest, most capable medical-grade power source to allow the surgical device designers to produce the most ergonomic and effective devices available. Today, we see new applications of this capability and are humbled by the impact we are having on medical practitioners and patient care.”
Picocyl’s small-sized cylinders are being used in a growing list of existing applications and are being incorporated in an expanding list of potential drug delivery and device delivery applications. The more noted existing applications include intraocular lens delivery, implantable medical gas delivery, autoinjectors, and microvolume delivery of gene therapies, amongst others. Potential applications include high-viscosity biologic drugs through autoinjectors, wearables injectors, needle-free injectors, nasal spray devices, dental anesthesia devices, dermal fillers, glaucoma shunts, drug eluting implants, and bone cements.
“As a single use energy source gas filled pico-cylinders provide superior consistency and performance,” says Auld. “Moving forward, we are investing in the evolution of our portfolio of solutions and services in order to customize, adapt and integrate compressed gas cylinders into innovative solutions throughout the medical industry and beyond.”
